Most people know they should use stronger passwords. The problem is actually sitting down and creating one that is both secure and practical. Coming up with a random string of uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols on your own is harder than it sounds — the human brain naturally falls back on patterns, and patterns are exactly what hackers exploit. The HB Tools Password Generator handles this automatically, creating a truly random password using your browser's own cryptographic engine in under a second, for free, without storing anything.
Password-related breaches remain the leading cause of account takeovers year after year. When a data breach happens at a major website, attackers get access to millions of username and password combinations. They then run those combinations automatically against every major platform — Gmail, Amazon, banking apps, social media — in a method called credential stuffing. If you used the same password on two sites, both accounts are now at risk the moment either one is breached.
The other common attack is brute force, where software systematically tries every possible combination of characters. A short or simple password — say eight characters using only lowercase letters — can be cracked by a modern GPU in seconds. Add uppercase, numbers, and symbols, and stretch the length to sixteen characters, and that same attack would take longer than the age of the universe to complete. The math changes dramatically with every character and character type you add.
Most free password generators you find online are either too simple to customize or they generate passwords on a server and return the result through the network. The second type is a significant concern because any intercepted response or server-side log could expose your password before you even use it.
This tool generates your password entirely inside your browser using the Web Crypto API, specifically the crypto.getRandomValues() function. This is the same cryptographic standard used in SSL certificates and encrypted messaging applications. The password is never sent anywhere — not to our servers, not to any analytics platform, and not to any third party. It exists only in your browser's memory for as long as the tab is open.
The tool calculates password entropy using the formula E = L × log₂(R), where L is the password length and R is the number of possible characters in the pool you selected. Entropy measures the theoretical unpredictability of the password in bits. The higher the entropy, the more combinations an attacker would have to try.
The crack time estimate then divides the total number of possible combinations by 100 billion guesses per second, which represents what a high-end GPU cluster can achieve on common hash types. This gives you a real-world sense of how resistant your password is, not just an abstract score. A password that takes three billion years to crack is, for all practical purposes, uncrackable with current technology.
